Work Health and Safety Policy

Purpose. Commits GreenLoop to the health and safety of workers, contractors, drivers and visitors and sets out how safety is managed across processing sites and field work.

1.Policy statement

GreenLoop will provide and maintain a working environment that is safe and without risks to health so far as is reasonably practicable. Safety has the same standing as throughput, recovery rate and cost in every decision. Every worker has the authority to stop work that is unsafe and will be supported for doing so.

2.Principal hazards

The business has identified the hazards with the greatest potential to cause serious harm and manages each through a control standard. Workers must know the controls for their area and must not proceed if a required control is missing.

• Mobile plant including loaders, forklifts and trucks interacting with people
• Conveyors, balers, shredders and screens with entanglement and crush points
• Sharps, gas cylinders, batteries and hazardous items in the waste stream
• Bioaerosols, dust and odour in receival and composting areas
• Fire in stockpiles, balers and lithium batteries
• Lone and remote field work, water bodies and traffic on client sites
• Heat and fatigue on outdoor and shift work

3.Responsibilities

Managers must provide resources, training and supervision and must review safety performance monthly. Supervisors must run pre-start talks, verify isolations and permits and act on hazards on the day. Workers must follow procedures, use the controls and protective equipment provided, report hazards and incidents immediately and take reasonable care for themselves and others.

4.Isolation and permits

No person will work on a conveyor, baler, shredder, screen or other item of plant unless it has been isolated, locked and tested under the isolation procedure. Confined space entry, hot work and working at height require a permit issued by an authorised person.

5.Field work

Field staff must lodge a journey plan before leaving base, must carry a charged communication device and must check in at the intervals in the field work procedure. Work near water, on roads or at height on client sites must be assessed and controlled before the visit.

6.Consultation and review

GreenLoop will consult workers through the health and safety committee, pre-start talks and the hazard reporting process. This policy will be reviewed annually and after any serious incident or change in legislation.
