Purpose. States the environmental commitment of GreenLoop and the framework of the environmental management system that supports its licences and certification.

1.Commitment

GreenLoop will comply with the Protection of the Environment Operations Act, the conditions of every environment protection licence it holds and all other environmental obligations. The business will prevent pollution, protect the communities and environments around its sites and continually improve its environmental performance. This commitment applies equally to GreenLoop sites and to work performed on client sites.

2.Significant aspects

The environmental aspects and impacts register identifies the aspects with the greatest potential impact. Each significant aspect has a documented control, a monitoring requirement and a responsible manager. The register is reviewed annually and after any incident, complaint or change to a process.

  • Odour from organics receival and composting
  • Leachate and stormwater from processing pads and yards
  • Dust and litter from receival, sorting and product storage
  • Fire in stockpiled recyclables and compost
  • Energy use and greenhouse gas emissions from plant and vehicles
  • Residual waste sent to landfill from sorting

3.Licence compliance

Each licence condition is entered in the legal obligations register with the person responsible, the evidence required and the due date. Monitoring required by a licence must be carried out at the frequency and by the method the licence states. Any exceedance or non-compliance must be reported to the Safety and Compliance Manager on the day it is identified and to the regulator within the time the licence requires.

4.Responsibilities

The General Manager is accountable for environmental performance. Site managers must ensure controls are in place and working at the start of every shift and must stop receival if a control has failed. The Safety and Compliance Manager maintains the management system, the licences and the reporting calendar. Every worker must report spills, odour events, dust escapes, fires and control failures immediately.

5.Community

GreenLoop will operate a complaints line for neighbours of each site, will log and investigate every complaint and will respond within five working days. Community consultation meetings will be held at Windsor twice a year and the minutes will be published on the site notice board.

6.Review

This policy will be reviewed at management review each year and after any regulatory notice, prosecution, significant incident or change in legislation.
