Site Energy and Emissions Management Plan

Purpose. Sets out how GreenLoop measures, reports and reduces energy use and greenhouse gas emissions across its sites and fleet to meet its targets and its regulated reporting obligations.

1.Baseline and targets

The baseline year is the financial year ending 2024. Scope one emissions come mainly from diesel in loaders, trucks and shredders and from composting. Scope two emissions come from purchased electricity at the three sites. The target is a 30 percent reduction in scope one and two emissions by 2030 and 80 percent renewable electricity by 2028.

2.Data collection

Electricity interval data, gas and diesel invoices, fleet fuel cards, weighbridge tonnages and windrow volumes must be collected monthly and entered in the sustainability data set by the Sustainability Analyst. Every figure must carry its source. The data set is reconciled to invoices each quarter and reviewed by the Head of Sustainability Advisory.

3.Calculation and reporting

Emissions must be calculated using the national greenhouse accounts factors current for the reporting year and the methods required by the regulated reporting scheme. The regulated report must be prepared by the end of September each year, reviewed by a second adviser and approved by the General Manager before lodgement. The voluntary sustainability report is published in November.

4.Reduction initiatives

The following initiatives are approved or under evaluation. Each has an owner and is tracked in the improvement register with its measured benefit.

• Replace the Eastern Creek high bay lighting with LED and controls, approved
• Install variable speed drives on the two main sorting line conveyors, approved
• Trial an electric loader at Windsor for receival duties, under evaluation
• Enter a renewable electricity supply agreement for all sites, under evaluation
• Optimise windrow turning frequency to cut diesel and methane, under evaluation
• Install rooftop solar on the Eastern Creek sort building, approved

5.Monitoring

Energy intensity per tonne processed and emissions per tonne must be reported monthly on the site visual boards and at management review. Variances greater than ten percent from the same month in the previous year must be investigated and recorded.

6.Review

This plan will be reviewed annually after the regulated report is lodged and when emission factors, targets or site operations change materially.
